William L. McGee is a noted World War II historian and author of four books on the war in the Pacific Theater. He was born in 1925 in Montana and grew up on ranches in Parks and Phillips counties. At the age of 16, he worked as a welder in the Kaiser Shipwards in Vancouver, Washington. At 17, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served in the Pacific theater. After the war, he returned to cowboying and worked as a dude wrangler on the exclusive Flying M E divorce ranch in northern Nevada. In 1950, he left cowboying and made a successful transition into the broadcasting field where he enjoyed a 32-year career.
McGee’s World War II histories have garnered praise from critics and readers alike.
